It is already hard enough to manage your school work, but on top of that you have work. This is an everyday thing college students at Miramar have to deal with. I even deal with this and so does my group members. We all use different things to manage are stress with school and work. I like to go play basketball or work out at the gym to manage my stress. Stress comes with college, but it is doubled when you also have work. I recommend following these 8 steps to succeed.
Step 1 is to get a calendar and use it. It can be a paper calendar. It can be your cell phone. It can be a PDA. No matter what kind it is, though, make sure you have one and you actually use it. Second is to write everything down. For example if it was Monday for me wake up 4 AM shower eat 5:30 be at work till 8, school at 9:30 - 12:45. That would just be my Monday mornings. Third step is to find time for you. This time for me is when I work out or play basketball to relieve stress, but you can also just relax and sleep. Fourth step would be to keep trying new systems if the calendar system isn’t working for you. The fifth step is to allow flexibility Things inevitably come up that you weren't expecting. You may not have known that your friend’s birthday is this week, and you certainly don't want to miss the celebration. Leave room in your calendar so that you can move things around when needed. The sixth step is to plan ahead this step is the step I know I need to work on. I am one of the biggest procrastinators out of my friends. This step can be easily handled if you put your mind to it. The seventh step is to plan for the unexpected. The last step is always make rewards my rewards are Friday and Saturday night I go out with my friends and have a good time.
In
conclusion it is very difficult to manage school and work, but these steps
should help if you are not doing well. This information has changed my college
career because it has taught me how to manage my time wisely and I hope it dose
the same for you.

“Yes I
work and also go to school. I manage my school and work by planning ahead.
Usually I work at night so I do all my school work during the day and if I
don’t have work I will relax.”

“I cut
hair Monday Wednesday Friday and go to class Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I have
to do all my assignments right when I get them that day. If I’m not cutting
hair then I’ll use that time to relax and watch my TV shows or go to the beach
or relax with my boyfriend.”

manage school and work with a calendar that I hang up in my room. I write all

I can definitely relate to this because I to work and go to school like many other students. School its self is hard enough and having to make time for work and homework can be challenging. I feel like this is the college experience for most though. I love being busy and even though it seems unmanageable at times its definitely achievable. I think this was a great topic the group choose to talk about because almost everyone can relate. even the people who don't work always have something going on with their daily life's so the steps to managing something is helpful. like the calender.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great topic good job those steps will be helpful to a lot of people. I know that it is hard to work while going to school it can be stressful. I know a lot of people who works and go to school most of the time they are the ones that is moody at work, and they are ones who always make mistakes at work. For those people who encounter people like that be understandable to them because you don’t know what he/she going through. You were right on working out that it can be helpful to released stress and it will be good to your health.
ReplyDeleteI always have had a hard time struggling with work and school. My accademic life revolves around my planner so I always make sure I write important due dates, and reminders. If I didnt have my planner I would be forced to rely on scattered papers, or worse my memory. Its nice to be organzied and its the first step to success. Sometimes I experience social trouble with accademic life. Sometimes my social life might feel more important, but i realized certain things need to be put on hold. Also, some useful information, If you want a good planner schedule an hour long appt with a councelor and you will recieve a sdcc planner that fits the schools schedule.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good system. I can relate because I have work and school as well as many other responsiblilities at home. It'a a lot of work but if I can stay on top of a schedule I'm good to go. If by doing these steps or some similar creates less stress then that is a plus. being more at ease and relaxed is best for your body and health. putting stress on your body makes you feel older and hurt. such as headaches, neck and back muscles aches alot. and health wise it is better on your heart. many students have to go to school and work and some even have children on top of that, so if they can have a plan to follow or a system like this it could give them the oportunity to actually feel less stressed and maybe find sometime for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI currently don't work but I do work on my school work a lot. I am currently taking 10 1/2 unit with this being my second semester of college. I have thought otherwise for my future. I currently raise livestock for fairs over this summer. That has really taken a toll on my time, both them and homework. Over this semester, I have learned ande across different strategies to use to get everything important done. This has taken a toll on me mentally with my family and all, but it has slowly been working. This list of things to do for success will become very helpful for e and I imagine many other classmates and other students as well. Thank you for posting this. :). Many of these strategies that I've learned, I've even past on to people like my boyfriend. He is in very advanced classes so these tips especially help us stay out of trouble, not finishing homework and all.
ReplyDeleteI know how hard it is, when you have to share work and study, I had been in that situation before, and sometimes is very stressful, the most times you have a lot homework, and many schedules that is easy to forgot, so I think keeping with you a plan ahead is the best way to deal with this, so you guys have done a good work with this article, all this advise are very useful even when you aren't working, you should have a plan ahead and take advantage of this, this is the easy way to keeping everything under control, and don't get that much stress.
ReplyDeleteGreat article because so many people relate to this topic. Balancing school and work is very difficult, with most jobs the work stops when you clock out for day but you can feel too tired or overwhelmed with other activities to finish your school work. I like the steps that you listed, especially step one with the calendar. I use the calendar and list tasks on it and cross them off throughout the week. I also like the third step because finding time just for yourself is very important; I like how you combined free time with stress relief like going to the gym. When I have free time, I love going to the gym or running because it alleviates my stress while giving me energy to focus on my studies.
ReplyDeleteI currently have a full time job and come to school full time and let me tell you it gets really hard at times. You come home and you are super tired and you want to do is sleep but you have to do homework for 4 classes. I know how hard it is to find time to get your stress out since you are so busy but all you can do is make time even though you're overwhelmed. It's definitely tough to juggle both. I think a calendar is a great idea because there has been times where I didn't know I had homework because I didn't write it down. A calendar would really help manage all of your schedules and manage your stress too. Planning ahead also can help you manage school and work because you can do homework ahead of time and have more time to relax. So relax people this is just a way of life :)))))
ReplyDeleteI can’t really relate to this article because I don’t have a job yet. I’m currently a full time student. I’m already trying really hard in imagining how to handle myself and stress when I have a job. It’s already hard to handle the pressure from my parents, chores and school assignments. I can’t think of what my life will be if I have a job. I like this article because it kind of helped me imagine on what I will do when I have the job. I also like the calendar idea because I think it fits my personality. I do things when I have the time but sometimes procrastinate (and I don’t like the effect because it messes up my schedule).
ReplyDeleteThis is a great step to follow if you are juggling work and school. For me I dont currently have a job, but it is hard enough for me to do my work. I couldn't even imagine if I had to work, I would never be able to have fun, I would be just be stressed all the time. Even not having a job, Im going to try these step by step instructions. I like the calendar idea its a great way to keep my life in order. I guess you dont have to have a job to follow these steps. You can be a cool dad that hangs out with his kids a lot, so these steps could make it easier for those kinds of things, to prioritize.
