The Child Development Center is a program for students and
parents attending Miramar College. It is the Campus Laboratory School that provides
the opportunity to observe and study growth and development patterns in young
children; the center offers an educational program for children two to five
years. This center is accredited by the National Association for the Education
of Young children, has been licensed by the California Department of Social
services and meets the guidance of the California Department of education.
The Child Development Center is very helpful for those
parents with little children’s, because they can use the center for their
children’s while they are attending class at the Miramar, City or Mesa college,
the center offers variety of preschool activities, like a creative expression,
computer basics, shapes, letters and sound recognition, street safety and home
safety, astronomy, numbers, Self-esteem, animals, communication , also they
have a different theme every month and the themes are integrate into the
program throughout the year.
The enrollment in this center is only for children of
parents attending day classes at Miramar, City and Mesa College, the
registration period for children will be two week period of every semester but
they accept enrollment after this period only if there are any space available,
the parent must be enrolled at least in 6 units or more also has to enroll in a
parent educational course each semester that their child attends the center,
and the priority is based on eligibility, they have a waiting list that they
continuing prioritized until the second week of the semester. Priority is based
on need, income and date of completed application; the fees depend on the
family’s monthly gross income, it can vary from 0 dollars to 20 dollars per day.
The working hours are from Monday to
Thursday at 7:45 a.m. – 4p.m and Friday at 7:45 – 1 p.m.
In conclusion Miramar College has the unique center that
server in 2 ways, the first one is very helpful for parents that want to attend
class but don’t have a nanny or day care center for their kids and the second
and very important, is that server as a comprehensive training lab for those
students that have choice Child development as a career.
This center has been very helpful for some parents with
children that are attending class at the college here we have some opinions.

because it is great for students with children 2-5 years old, we have a High
quality program that fills a need for parents. I wish I had this when I was a
student.

I think it is a very useful program, because this programs
allows me to attend school without worry about my son and his where about. It
also allows his mother to go to work without having to find a sitter or day
care. Working with the children helps me to build my parenting skills and
responsible habits.
I like the information on the staff and their devotion to the children. This program is very helpful to parents who need to go to school but need supervision for their children too. Not only are these minors taken care of while their parents are in study but they are also given skills in which to help them in their future lives as well as their school years to come. I especially like reading on what the program offers the children such as self-esteem skills and astronomy, which is very exciting to know that the children will benefit greatly and learn from a wide variety of subjects. A crucial time in learning is when you’re young, I’m sure these children will greatly benefit from this program as well as their parents.
ReplyDeleteI really like the fact that Miramar offers a place where students can bring their kids to while they're studying to better their lives. I personally know someone that has a little girl and she brings her to this place all the time. I feel that more colleges should have places like these because more people would go to college while someone babysits their kid. Also they aren't very far so if something were to happen they are right there and could take care of things. Now if they were stuck at some other place farther away from the parent it would be harder for the parents to drive to two different places and they can save money by just having to drive to only one place. Miramar is the best place for anyone who has kids because they can kill two birds with one stone. I like the idea that the parents have to be in a child development class because that way they can be involved in whats going on with the program. The parents have to be involved somehow in the program. I also like the idea that they have to have certain units to have their kids there. I wouldn't want someone there getting their kids babysat while they only have one class. They need to be actually wanting to be in school and motivated.
ReplyDeleteNow I know why is there kids at our school. I thought it was just some summer class or summer program for kids. It’s actually nice to know that the Miramar provides a facility for parents to leave their child. I don’t have kids or anything but I know that it’s really hard to be a parent and at the same time working and studying. You always have to think first about your kid’s safety. And I think the school did a pretty good job on dealing with that problem. A student/parent doesn’t need to think about his/her child’s place to stay everyday. And its actually good for parents/students to think that their child is within the radius of the school and under the supervision of nice people.
ReplyDeleteI come from a big family and I know whats its like not being able to do something because you dont have a baysitter. I think having this program is great for many reason. One it is a place where kids can learn and get a head start on life and education. Another reason is because the parents can also get a start on their education by going to school while their kids are being educated. I believe everyone has a chance to make a difference in thei lifes. They are never to old. I like how this program is also affordable or at least it seems like it can be worked out with the persons income. Money is a huge problem and importance in this world so having an affordable place to leave your child knowing he or she is learning must be a great relief.
ReplyDeletethis article was very interesting to me because i have a big family and know what its like when you have to find someone who can look after you sibling and it can be frustrating and sometimes it doesn't always work out but it seems that they are a little bit strict on what you have to do to enroll your kid having to take 6 units and still might not be able to get your kid in to the program to me they should expand it because more people are going to community college than regular college because of there high price to get in but thats just my option
ReplyDeleteGreat article it will serve good information for single parent and parents that needs their kids to be in child care while they are attending class or work. It will also be helpful to the kids to be more active and learn few things on early age. It is better for the kids to be active and socialize with the other kids on early age because their brain is like a sponge they will suck and adapt information's that are available to them. Job well done!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is awesome that Miramar, Mesa, and City college has a daycare place. I think that if more colleges had this it would give the other parents an oppertunity to get a college degree and go farther in school. And I like that they require the parent/student to have a certain amount of credits to let their child stay there. That is something that could motivate them to stay on top of their classes. Now that I know more about this place, if I ever have a friend who needs somebody to watch their kids so they can get a college degree I will be able to tell them about this so they can knwo that these colleges have places that can really help them out. I thought this was an awesome article to write about.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a great idea that San Diego Miramar College has a child development center because it offers day care for children while their parents are at school. I like the idea that the parents have to have certain amount of credits in order for their children to be able to attend the day care. I also think that having children in day care is amazing because they have activities which keep the kids busy and stimulates their creativity. I personally have never been in there but I’m positive that they keep it nice and clean for all the kids.
ReplyDeleteThis program sounds very helpful for students who are parents with young children. It really sounds like a stress reliever to these students so they don't have to worry about their young ones during class. Financially, it also sounds friendly. If parents can't afford much then it doesn't cost much. I'm not a parent myself but it really sounds nice to those who are so they could further their education while raising a young child. It also sounds nice because the staff there sound like they seem very friendly and understanding.they seem very good with kids and very involved with them, while they're there.
ReplyDeleteThe Child Development Center is a really good program that Mira Mar College has. It is really helpful for parents that want to have a higher educations and a degree. Not only does is it inexpensive, they offer preschool activates. So while the parent is learning, their kid is learning also. Every community college and University should have a program like this because it really benefits the parents, by helping them out with their child and keeping them involved with preschool activities. Another good thing about this program is that it's licensed by the California Department of Social services! Good job in picking this program!

ReplyDeleteFirst of all I believe that having an accredited childcare facility is a strong indicator that the children will be well supervised in a safe environment. Secondly, I think the Child Development Center is a safe place because it is not only that they are accredited but the Child Care Development Center is held accountable by the California Department of Social Services,unlike many other child care facility's that do not have the same standards.Having the accountability of the California Department of Social Services, and with being certified, must give parents a sense of comfort. Knowing their child or children are in a safe place. Thus allowing them to focus on their studies.
Im a full believer in making things easier for adults who have children, and want an education. Not only is it a responsible act, its also good for the children. The children get to interact with other children while developing social skills. Child care can be very costly. My mother is a single parent and I moved from child care to child care and it got tiring, and costly. Since this is alot cheaper it gives parents hope. I really enjoyed the pictures in the article, it grabbed my attention and made me want to read more. I like the quotes and info next to the staff and educators that run the child care facility.
ReplyDeleteGood program for parents and students alike. I am currently taking one of their classes offered there and it is very interesting. You learn about children's development through the years they grow up. I also did an observation project at the day care and it was cool to watch how the children interacted with one another.
ReplyDeleteThis resource is not needed in my currant situation. But if I was in need of childcare, or a single parent, I think this is a wonderful way to help parents out. Its a great feeling to have your child near by,a safe environment where the child also feels safe, and well taken care of. The income guidelines are nice, for the different income brackets. The cost seems fair, cause I know childcare can be very expensive. Over all this article was very informative.
